ABOUT ME
While playing various sports throughout the years I encountered many therapists and many different types of massage. After I retired from Power Tumbling and Trampoline in 1992, I went to Oklahoma City University and received a BFA (magna cum laude) in Dance Performance. I moved to NYC in 1999 to pursue dance, and although dancing made me happy, I did not like turning it into a career. I prefer dance to be a stress release rather than a stressor. This led me to decide to incorporate all my knowledge and experience of movement and the body into a career that I knew I would enjoy and feel passionate about.
I graduated with an AOS Degree in Massage Therapy and Shiatsu from The Swedish Institute of Massage Therapy in NYC. The program I entered was 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 16 months. Extensive classes in Human Anatomy and Physiology, Myology, Neurology, Assessment, and Pathology were covered as well as hands on training in Swedish Massage, 5 Element Theory Shiatsu, Medical Massage, Sports Massage, Chair Massage, Structural Integration, Trigger Point Therapy, and Myofascial Deep Tissue Work. To supplement my training, further courses of study in Lomi Lomi, Tom Meyer's Anatomy Trains, Reflexology, Craniosacral, Polarity Therapy, Self-Care, Tui-Na, Cupping, and Ice and Heat Treatments were acquired.
After I graduated I continued at the school as an assistant teacher until I moved to California. To further validate this work and training, I became a member of ABMP, received National Certification with NCBTMB, and acquired licenses in New York and California.
The Swedish Institute is the oldest Massage School in North America and has been involved not only in education, but in creating new laws and sanctions for the Massage Field as well as for Massage Therapists.
